Visitor Control
The Visitor Control Center is located just to the left of the main gate (Gate 1) at Naval Base Coronado on 4th Ave, Building 680.  The Center is responsible for the issuance of DBIDS, Contractor and Special Events access cards and fingerprints that provide all base access. Due to the constant change in requirements and paperwork, it would be best to contact the Visitor Control Center directly.

NASNI SWIFT Lanes
SWIFT lanes are built to get you on base faster and more securely. Enrollment in the Naval Air Station North Island (NASNI) biometric SWIFT lanes at the NASNI Visitor Control Center (VCC) will reduce your wait times at the gate. Anyone with a base access ID is eligible.

Starting Monday 7 September, NAS North Island will open an additional SWIFT biometric lane at the front gate.

This biometric pilot program has a very small budget funded with innovation money. If it succeeds, biometrics has the potential to fuel Navy-wide reduction in manpower and base traffic wait times. If it fails, we will go back to the old, slow way of checking IDs. As with any pilot program, there are issues to work through as we continue to develop the technology and procedures.

The #1 cause of delays at North Island gates is unenrolled individuals waiting at legacy / non-biometric lanes. Enrolled individuals have drastically lower wait times and less impact to the Coronado community.

• Consider enrolling today to reduce your wait times
• If you are seeing issues with facial recognition, please stop by the Visitor Center. The team will review your enrollment, take a new photo, etc. Facial recognition is proven to work nearly 100% of the time. If you're not seeing similar results, give us a chance to fix it.

Starting this weekend NBC Visitor Center will be open 1100-1600 on Saturday 29 August and Sunday 30 August. In the future, the Visitor Center will be open every First and Third weekend, both Saturday and Sunday, for enrollment. No appointments necessary! We process enrolments in ~2 minutes.

Currently the system does not allow a SWIFT biometric enrollee to escort unenrolled individuals. Everyone in the vehicle must be enrolled. For children under 10 without an ID card, please see below. NOTE: Children in rear-facing car seats do not need to be enrolled.

FAQs
SWIFT Lanes Effectiveness
     Q: How effective are SWIFT lanes?
     A: SWIFT lanes have been shown to reduce traffic. If the biometric system is not working, NBC will send an AtHoc alert and the SWIFT lane signs will display its reverse side to indicate legacy-lane operation and hand-scanning of IDs.
Motorcyclists
     Q: Can I use the SWIFT lane if I'm riding my motorcycle?
     A: Yes. Please ensure that you put your visor up and remove sunglasses prior to arrival at the SWIFT lane camera to minimize facial obstructions.
Base Access
     Q: Do I have to register for SWIFT lane to access the base?
     A: No, personnel can still access the base with proper ID without registering for SWIFT.
Privacy
     Q: I am concerned about my privacy. Does SWIFT put my photo out to the public?
     A: No. The SWIFT lane requires an updated photo, but does not release any of your personal data to the public. 
Dependents
     Q: Does every passenger have to be registered to go through the SWIFT lane?
     A: Yes. All passengers must be registered, including children under 10 without an ID card, please see below. NOTE: Children in rear-facing car seats do not need to be enrolled.
     Q: Can dependents register for SWIFT?
     A: Yes. Anyone who has base access is able to register for SWIFT.
Retirees
     Q: Can retirees and veterans register for SWIFT?
     A: Yes. Anyone who has base access is able to register for SWIFT.

SWIFT Lane Gate Access: Minor Dependent Enrollment
To streamline your child's enrollment in the SWIFT lane, please follow this step-by-step process:

Enrollment Procedure
     1. Pre-Enroll Online - Complete the DBIDS Pre-Enrollment form on the DBIDS Global Enrollment Portal 
     2. Save the QR Code - Once completed, save or take a screenshot of the 6-digit QR code generated at the end of the registration.
     3. Email the Code - Email the QR code to NBC_Swiftlane@us.navy.mil to initiate the pass creation. Pass is needed for enrollment.
     4. VCC Visit - Accompany your child to the Visitor Control Center (VCC) to finalize enrollment, capture photo, and pick up their pass

Access
Sponsors allows approved individuals affiliated with the DoD to take responsibility for verifying and authorizing an applicant’s need for access to an installation.  The following personnel may be sponsors:

• Active Duty, Guard and Reserve personnel, CAC holders (GS), and family members 18 years of age and older are authorized to sponsor individuals onto an installation.
• Residents in privatized housing can sponsor people to visit the area they live in, but this privilege is only for their specific housing area.

Contractors/Workers: A contractor/worker is someone not affiliated with the Government or Navy hired to do a specific job on the installation. Job applicants, non-credential vendors/service providers, Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) holders without a Merchant Mariner credential (MMC).

For unescorted access to the installation all visitors, contractors or workers are required to complete the DBIDS pre-enrollment (https://dbids-global-enroll.dmdc.mil/preenrollui/#/landing-page) or SECNAV Form 5512/1  with assistance from their sponsor (person or organization who invited the guest). These procedures are effective for all sponsored visitors, special events request, job applicants, vendors/service providers not enrolled in the Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS), Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) holders without a Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC), civilian retiree card holders prior to PSD re-issuance of expired credentials, veteran’s affair card holders and Gold star family members.

Sponsors must reach out to nbc_baseaccess@us.navy.mil or call the VCC at the numbers listed above for step by step directions for access. The VCC will not accept any request from visitors. The request process must by initiated by the sponsor in person or via email. Expect a response within 24 business hours from the VCC. Emails received on Friday after 1200 will receive a reply on the following Monday.
