In the Beginning…
Naval Air Station North Island (NASNI) was commissioned in 1917 and was the major continental U.S. base supporting the operating forces in the Pacific during World War II. At that time, the City of Coronado became home to most of the aircraft factory workers and dependents of NASNI, which was working around the clock.
Naval Base Coronado (NBC) was established in 1997 and incorporated seven separate naval installations under the Commanding Officer at NASNI.
Those facilities include:
- Naval Air Station, North Island (NASNI)
- Naval Amphibious Base Coronado (NAB)
- Naval Outlying Landing Field, Imperial Beach (NOLF)
- Naval Auxiliary Landing Field, San Clemente Island (NALF SCI)
- Silver Strand Training Complex (SSTC)
- Camp Michael Monsoor (CMM)
- Camp Morena (CM)
- Remote Training Site, Warner Springs (SERE)
These seven installations inhabit more than 57,000 acres and employ over 36,000 military and civilian personnel, making NBC the largest command in the Southwest Region with over 30% of the Region’s total workforce.
Today…
NBC maintains its stance as a consortium of eight Naval Installations unequalled in operational scope and complexity while accommodating the requirements of 16 helicopter squadrons, 2 fixed wing squadrons, 2 aircraft carriers, 4 SEAL Teams, Navy Expeditionary Command Squadrons, and other air, surface, and subsurface commands.
In our sincerest efforts to be good neighbors to the surrounding communities, we have sought to reevaluate and upgrade the process with which we hear from individuals and handle subsequent questions, comments, and concerns. The resulting Community Concerns Program offers individuals two methods to be heard: A phone Hotline and a web-based Form. Both of these lead directly to our Community Plans and Liaison Officer to be evaluated as soon as possible. This new Community Concerns Program transitions NBC away from a single issue – noise – to a broader context; providing an avenue for the community to provide concerns or comments on many different issues.
The NBC Community Concern Hotline:
(619) 545-8136
The Hotline is a voicemail system designed to allow members of the community to provide a detailed message regarding any concerns or comments associated with operations at any of the eight installations associated with NBC. In addition to providing the community with a single telephone number, this process allows NBC staff the opportunity to review the message and direct the concern or comment to the correct department.

The Community Concern web page offers five options that allow an individual to categorize the reason for reaching out to us: General Comment, General Question, General Concern, General Noise Concern, and Plane/Helicopter Concern. Depending on the category selected, the form may request additional information regarding incident details to help us identify the cause for concern.
