Camp Morena is a U.S. Navy inland training facility located near Campo, in the Mountain Empire region of San Diego County, California. It is part of Naval Base Coronado and sits just north of Lake Morena County Park.
Originally established around 1940 for mountain and cold-weather training, the facility is comprised of rugged terrain, including chaparral, oak woodlands, and grasslands at elevations around 4,000 feet.
Camp Morena serves multiple purposes:
-
It provides logistical support and housing for Navy and other military units conducting training.
-
It’s used for construction projects and engineering training, such as building and renovating infrastructure.
-
It supports joint military training with units from the Navy, National Guard, and Air Force.
Camp Morena is often used alongside the nearby Camp Michael Monsoor, which focuses on advanced training for Navy SEALs and other special warfare units in mountain and cold-weather environments.
