Public Tours

Naval Base Coronado (NBC) receives hundreds of tour requests every year and, regrettably, because of manpower cuts and the mission-essential responsibilities of our one-person public affairs office; NBC can no longer support such requests.

The only exception are Veterans who served at one of NBC’s installations or the immediate family of a Veteran who served at one of NBC’s installations.   Please provide a copy of the Veteran’s DD214, valid ID and the date for the requested tour.  (Please keep in mind tours are only provided Mon-Fri.)

For all others, who wish to visit an active military base, open house events in the San Diego area include the Naval Air Facility El Centro Air Show in March and the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Air Show in October:

MCAS Miramar Air Show (October) - http://miramarairshow.com/

In San Diego there are many military-centric sites and museums such as:

USS Midway Museum, which is a decommissioned U.S. Navy aircraft carrier located in downtown San Diego.  The museum features 60 exhibits, 29 restored aircraft, a self-guided audio tour, and two flight simulators.  Exhibits range from the crew's sleeping quarters to a massive galley, engine room, the ship's jail, officer's country, post office, machine shops, and pilots' ready rooms, as well as primary flight control and the bridge high in the island over the flight deck.  Especially popular are the museum volunteers you'll meet throughout the ship.  Each is eager to share a personal story, an anecdote, or amazing statistic about the Navy.  For more information, visit http://www.midway.org/

Another option is to visit the "Flying Leathernecks" Museum, which is free for all ages.  The Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum is the only Museum in the world dedicated to United States Marine Corps (USMC) aviation, with the largest and most complete collection of vintage aircraft flown by Marine pilots in the world.  The Museum tells the proud story of USMC Aviation and the part it has played in defending America.  There are more than 25 aircraft on display, eight galleries of war artifacts, and one of the world's largest collections of Marine Aviation patches.  For more information, visit https://www.flyingleathernecks.org/

Please check with your travel professional or local chamber for other sites and museums.

Thank you for your support of the United States Navy.
