History

NATEC traces its history back to the autumn of 1942, less than a year after Pearl Harbor, as the Airborne Coordinating Group (ACG). The ACG was established to alleviate the critical shortage of highly skilled technicians, caused by the rapid production of new equipment and electronic devices.
 

Since then, this organization has gone through several transformations, including a couple of name changes. Those in the aviation community probably still know or refer to this organization by its previous name, as the Naval Aviation engineering Service Unit (NAESU).
 

In 1998, NAESU relocated to San Diego, Calif., and merged with Naval Air Technical Services Facility (NATSAF) to form a new organization called the Naval Air Technical Data and Engineering Service Command.
 

As a result of this merger, the scope of NATEC’s service responsibilities and functions has expanded. In addition to providing Naval engineering and technical assistance, its mission now includes providing technical support services in preparation, publication and distribution to activities operating, maintaining or manufacturing aircraft, guided missile target drones and related equipment. 
 
In order to respond rapidly to fleet requirements, NATEC employs teams of experience federal employees called Navy Engineering Technical Specialist (NETS). Today, NATEC is the world leader in supplying Engineering Technical Services (ETS) to Naval Aviation activities.

NATEC Detachment Lemoore is a field unit of NATEC San Diego, Calif., and specifically supports F/A-18 aircraft and weapons systems.
