Small Arms Range

Welcome to Naval Base Point Loma Small Arms Range Facility,
providing quality support to various Fleet Units and Shore Forces

Range Capabilities:
We operate a 20 lane small arms range that is capable of conducting qualification fire for all the following Weapons:
. Pistols (All calibers of standard pistol ammunition up to and including .45 cal ball)
. Shotgun (DODIC A011 00 buck)
. Rifle (AA17 and AA40 5.56mm frangible rifle ammunition)
. Naval Base Point Loma Range does not offer simulators for sustainment.

Ammunition not allowed at Naval Base Point Loma Range:
. Shotgun Slugs
. Tracers
. Armor Piercing Rounds
. All rifle ammunition except as noted above
. 5.56mm Ball (A066/M193 and A058/M855)
. 7.62mm and .50 cal

Hours of Operation:
Our hours of operation are from 0730-1600 Monday through Friday.  If you belong to a reserve unit and require small arms qualification please contact us for alternative hours.

Range Responsibilities:
Point Loma Small Arms Range will provide a qualified Range Safety Officer (RSO) and Cardboard target backers.

Visiting Commands Responsibilities:
All shooters must be thoroughly trained in small arms operations as outlined in OPNAVINST 3591.1, prior to arriving at the range.

Visiting Commands are required to provide hearing protection, eye protection, targets, weapons, ammunition, qualified Line Coaches and qualified Small Arms Marksmanship Instructors (SAMI) appropriate for the course of fire being conducted.  SAMIs must produce Qualification card prior to operating Range.
