The Naval Base San Diego (NBSD) Public Affairs Office serves as the principal communications hub for the U.S. Navy’s largest installation on the West Coast and the Navy’s second largest installation overall. Homeport to the Pacific Fleet’s Surface Navy—including 60 ships, 250 tenant commands, 26,000 Sailors, 6,000 reservists, and 30,000 civilian personnel—NBSD represents a vital operational, logistical, and economic anchor for the region. WHAT WE DO:

The Public Affairs Officer (PAO) communicates the Commanding Officer’s key messages, supports operational readiness through transparent and timely information flow, and builds trust between the Navy and the surrounding community. The PAO manages the command’s Mass Communication Team, media relations, visual information, and digital engagement programs, ensuring accurate and compelling storytelling across traditional and social media platforms. Through proactive engagement, the NBSD Public Affairs Office strengthens public understanding of the Navy’s mission and its enduring commitment to national defense.
 

MEDIA:

We coordinate all media requests, press releases, and interviews involving NBSD activities and personnel. Our team ensures accurate information is shared with the public and media outlets in alignment with Department of the Navy communication policy.

NBSD Public Affairs professionals are trained, educated and experienced. Each member completes training at the Defense Information School (DINFOS), a component of the DoD’s Defense Media Activity, located at Fort George G. Meade, Md.  For 55 years, DINFOS has been the premier learning institution for training United States Department of Defense communicators in journalism, public affairs and visual information.
