Command Master Chief Freyberg, a Ney York City native, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in August 1999. Upon completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command Illinois, he reported to the USS Kauffman (FFG 59), homeported in Norfolk, Virginia where he earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist Qualification. In December 2004, he reported to Naval School Explosive Ordinance Disposable, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.
In January 2006, he reported aboard the USS Nimitz (CVN 68), homeported in San Diego, California. There he earned his Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist Qualification and served as the Leading Petty Officer for S-2 Division. In December 2010, he transferred to Naval Station Newport and promoted to Chief Petty Officer. From Naval Station Newport, he reported to the USS New Orleans (LPD 18) and served as the Food Service Division Leading Chief Petty Officer. In 2016, he advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer and earned his Enlisted Information Dominance Warfare Qualification.
He transferred to Commander, Mine Counter Measure Squadron Three to be the N41 Department Leading Chief Petty Officer. During his tour, he graduated from the Senior Enlisted Academy Class 212 and converted to Command Senior Chief shortly after and completed COB/CMC School. He served as the Command Senior Chief aboard USS Fort Worth (LCS 3) from 2019 to 2022 where he promoted to Command Master Chief in 2021. He served as the Command Master Chief aboard the USS Michael Monsoor (DDG 1001) from 2022 to 2024. He assumed duties as the Command Master Chief for Naval Base San Diego in April 2024.
Master Chief Freyberg earned the following decorations: Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
