Commander James Gallagher

Commander Gallagher is a native of Long Lake, NY. He enlisted in February 1991 as a Submarine Electronics Technician and attended basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL. In 2001 he was promoted to Chief Petty Officer and commissioned in 2005 as a Submarine Electronics Limited Duty Officer (LDO). He graduated, Summa Cum Laude, from Trident University International with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.

His operational tours include; USS SANTA FE (SSN 763) - Pearl Harbor, HI, USS SIMON LAKE (AS 33) - La Maddalena, Italy, First Lieutenant; USS HARTFORD (SSN 768) - Groton, CT, Division Officer; USS FRANK CABLE (AS 40) - Guam, and Naval Research Laboratory - Port Hueneme, CA.

His shore tours include Electronic Warfare Support Measures (ESM) maintenance pipeline instructor (MTS); Naval Submarine School - Groton, CT, Submarine Surveillance Equipment Program (SSEP) - Groton, CT, Communications Officer; Base Consolidated Telecommunication (BCT) - Groton, CT, Electronics Material Officer (EMO); Commander Submarine Squadron Fifteen - Guam, Weapons Production Management Assistant/Weapon Repair Officer; TRIDENT Refit Facility - Kings Bay, GA, and Maintenance Officer; Commander Submarine Group Ten - Kings Bay, GA.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (six awards), and various campaign and service awards. He is authorized to wear Surface Warfare Officer (SWO), Enlisted Submarine Warfare (SS), and Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS) insignias.

Commander Gallagher is married to the former Crystal Morey of Canterbury, CT and they have three adult children (Riley, Casey, and Avery).
