Commander Frantz is a native of Severna Park, Maryland. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and was commissioned in 2006. He was designated a Naval Aviator in August of 2008. He holds a Master of Science in Engineering in Systems Engineering from the Johns Hopkins University, and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College where he served as a member of Halsey Alfa.

Commander Frantz’s Sea tours include assignments as a junior officer with the “Golden Warriors” of VFA-87, disassociated sea tour with the “Redcocks” of VFA-22, and Department Head duty with the “Dambusters” of VFA-195. He has deployed multiple times on USS GEORGE H. W. BUSH (CVN 77) and USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76). He has flown in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, and NEW DAWN; and flown armed escort and Defensive Counter-Air flights in the Sea of Japan, East China Sea, South China Sea, and the Arabian Gulf.

Commander Frantz is a graduate of the Naval School of Aviation Safety and has completed shore tours serving as an Operational Test Director and Branch head at Air Test and Evaluation NINE, and as the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake Operations Officer (N3).

Commander Frantz has accumulated over 2,500 flight hours in F/A-18 A+/B/C/D/E/F fighter aircraft and more than 400 carrier arrested landings. He is authorized to wear Air Medal Strike/Flight and Afghanistan Campaign Medal.
