Superstition OHV Rec Area No Drone Zone

Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), known as drones, are gaining in popularity. Although drones are fun to fly, they can be deadly if flown near aircraft, especially military aircraft conducting unusual, often invisible, flight maneuver in the airspace above the Superstition OHV recreation area (see map below). Investigations often reveal that the majority of in-flight collisions are the result of a faster aircraft overtaking and hitting a slower aircraft, especially when a pilot’s ability to spot traffic (i.e., a drone), identify it, realize it is on collision path, and react to it takes less than 10 seconds. These potential dangerous situations could negatively impact the Navy’s ability to train. Drone hobbyists need to comply with applicable state and federal regulations and respect the various no drone zones for the safety of all.
