Commander

Commander Lauren Garcia is a native of Arlington Heights, Illinois. She graduated and received her commission from the United States Naval Academy in 2008, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. She earned her Master’s in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in Rhode Island.

As a Surface Warfare Officer CDR Garcia’s sea assignments include the USS JOHN PAUL JONES (DDG 53) as the Auxiliaries Officer where she earned her Surface Warfare pin and the USS CHUNG-HOON (DDG 93) as the Navigation Officer. Her shore assignments include Afloat Training Group Mayport as a Training Liaison Officer. CDR Garcia laterally transferred to the Human Resources community in June 2014.

As a Human Resource Officer, she has served at Navy Leadership and Ethics Center as a leadership instructor; Navy Recruiting District, Jacksonville as the Enlisted and Officer Operations Officer; Chief of Naval Personnel Staff, as the Section Head for special and incentive pay; and most recently at Navy Region Southeast as the Workforce Development Officer.

CDR Garcia’s personal awards include the Navy Meritorious Service medal, Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), and various unit and service awards. She maintains her Professional Human Resource (PHR) Certification and is a Master Training Specialist. Commander Garcia is married to Commander Michael Garcia and they have three children.
