Steve Cusumano serves as the Deputy Commander for Naval Support Activity Monterey. He previously served with Commander, Navy Region Europe Africa and Southwest Asia as the Region Deputy Operations Director in Naples, Italy where he oversaw eight Region Program Directors in direct support of eight USN installations in six countries on three continents supporting three combatant commanders.
He proudly served as a United States Marine Corps Commissioned Officer where he flew eight types of helicopters and two types of fixed-wing aircraft accumulating nearly 4,000 mishap free flight hours. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with two Gold Stars, Air Medal with a “Combat V” one Gold Star and the numeral 2, the Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Gold Star, the Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Gold Star and the Presidential Service Badge.
As a United States Marine he routinely deployed to the Western Pacific aboard USN amphibious shipping, the mid-east for combat operations, numerous countries across the globe for exercises and engagements, and in direct support of the President of the United States while flying with Marine Helicopter Squadron One.
Steve is from Kansas City, Missouri. He is a graduate of Central Missouri State University and earned a Masters of Aeronautical Science degree with Distinction from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. His military training includes USMC Officers Candidate School and USMC The Basic School in Quantico, VA, USN Flight School in Pensacola, FL, and USMC Amphibious Warfare School in Quantico, VA.
